The Purpose
In this blog I highlight nutrition related research and post short literature reviews on various topics. This blog is my personal journey into developing an encompassing picture of how we should eat and live. It forces me to keep current and critically focus on each paper.
Almost all media reports of research are misinterpretations of how new findings contribute to our knowledge-base. Context and methodology are essential to get a more accurate interpretation, which I focus on here.
The title of the blog, “Nutritional Blogma,” is meant to highlight the many dogmas of nutrition that are either misinterpretations of research or blatantly wrong. We live in a a tug-o-war between political powers, science, and human tendencies, each muddled with their own agendas and influences. This in turn is complicated by oversimplified and/or dated information taught to us in a formal education setting, or influenced by popular media/celebrities spreading nonsense. Even many of our so called nutrition professionals simply peddle standard information without critically analyzing the research.
Last but not least, as far as nutritional research will take us, eating itself shouldn’t be a science. However with modern environmental cues clouding our judgements, we seem to need a push back toward the right direction.
The Goal
Ultimately, my goal is to utilize my multidisciplinary interests to support a long term evidence-based health resource that focuses on the many aspects of nutrition to build a big picture view of nutrition. In the future, I plan to include interviews and guest posts by researchers.
